Pointless, which is hosted by Alexander Armstrong, has four teams of two contestants in each episode and they have to answer four rounds of general knowledge questions. The winning team can compete for the cash jackpot.

McGrath's TV appearance comes after his first public appearance in December when he received a lukewarm reception on stage at the Happy Christmas Ipswich event to raise money for East Anglia Children's Hospices (EACH), of which the duch*ess of Cambridge is patron.

McGrath has kept a low profile since pleading guilty in January 2017 to harassing a married woman for a year after she ended their affair and was sentenced to 10 weeks in jail, suspended for 18 months (he is pictured with his wife Nicola following his court appearance)

He sung three comedic songs on stage with actor Philip Pope at the evening, which was organised by his friend, comedian Griff Rhys Jones.

The comedian has kept a low profile since pleading guilty in January 2017 to harassing a married woman for a year after she ended their affair and was sentenced to 10 weeks in jail, suspended for 18 months.

McGrath, who has appeared in programmes including comedy documentary Three Men In A Boat, was also given a five-year restraining order in his court case.

The offences happened in Cambridge over a 14-month period between June 2015 and August 2016.

The court heard his victim had a physical relationship with McGrath between November 2010 and May 2015.
