view Coeur d'Alene, I Idaho Tuesday, March 3, 1998 Page D5 Wash. Chronicle Obituaries Louis Wakefield Endicott, Wash. Service for Louis L. Wakefield, 85, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Endicott.

Burial will follow at the Endicott Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Wakefield, who was born in Endicott, died Friday. He graduated in 1930 from Endicott High School and received a degree in 1934 from Washington State University.

In 1936 he married Selma Kjontvedt in Yakima: Mr. Wakefield worked as a civil engineer with the Soil Conservation Service in Athena, Ellensburg, Moscow, Idaho, and Clarkston, before returning to the family farm near Endicott in 1950. He retired in 1977. He helped design, construct and display 14 Endicott community floats for Spokane's Lilac Parade. He was past president of the Endicott Education Association, served on the board of directors of the Bank of Endicott, Wheat Growers of Endicott and Whitman Hospital and Medical Center, where he served for 25 years and was president from 1974 to 1980.

Mr. Wakefield was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Cougar Club and Endicott Gun Club. He was Conservation Farmer of the Year in 1954. His wife preceded him in death. Survivors include daughters, Diane Wakefield of Pittsburgh and Doris Roots of Big Timber, a son, Hugh Wakefield of Endicott; a brother, Victor Wakefield of Spokane; four grandsons and three stepgreatgrandchildren.

Edward Boyce Spokane Service for Edward M. 'Ed' Boyce, 85, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Private burial will be at Pines Cemetery. Mr.

Boyce, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Saturday. He was a flight instructor and taught many pilots during World War II. Mr. Boyce was the co-owner of Thrifty Mobile Home for several years. He was a member of the Spokane Valley United Methodist Church, the Oriental Masonic Lodge 74, the Scottish Rite Bodies, the El Katif Shrine, the El Katif Shrine Chanters, the South Spokane Shrine Club, the Royal Order of Jesters Court 65, White Rose Chapter 230 of the Order of Eastern Star, and the Manito Golf and Country Club.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Margaret; two daughters, Barbara Kreitzer of Portland and Peggy Watson of Redmond, a brother, Fred Boyce of Spokane; a sister, Hazel Erdman of Spokane; and three grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or the Scottish Rite Center for Childhood Language Disorders. Karl 'Larry' Eich Lacey, Wash. Service for Karl L. "Larry" Eich, 70, was Monday at Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse, Wash.

Burial followed at Garfield (Wash.) Cemetery. Mr. Eich, who was born in New Brunswick, N.J., died Thursday. He served two years in the Army during the Korean War. Mr.

Eich moved to Garfield in 1949 and began a dry cleaning business. He was also a rural mail carrier for several years. In 1950 he rried Arlene Trimble in Garfield, and they made their home there until 1964, when they moved to Clarkston, Wash. After one year, they moved to East Wenatchee, where he managed the Western Auto store until 1973. They then moved to Seattle, where he managed the auto and sporting goods departments at a Kmart until his retirement in 1990.

Mr. and Mrs. Eich then moved to Lacey. Survivors include his wife; a son, Dan Eich of Olympia; two daughters, Bevra Maybee of Sedona, and Karla Alvord of Marysville, a sister, Evelyn Brown of Sprague, and a grandson. Memorial contributions may be made to the Garfield-Farmington Emergency Medical Services or to the American Heart Association.

Mary Morse Spokane Service for Mary E. Morse, 48, is planned for 1 p.m., Wednesday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Born in Odessa, Mrs. Morse died Thursday.

She graduated from Odessa High School and moved to Spokane about 30 years ago. Mrs. Morse worked at Jensen Byrd Company and Skaggs Automotive. In 1977 she married Richard Morse. She was a member of Manito Golf and Country Club, was a district chairperson for American Heart Association and was a volunteer for March of Dimes.

Survivors include her husband; a stepson, James Morse of Indian Wells, and a brother, Robert Carr of Spokane. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Esther Morton Spokane Memorial service for Esther M. Morton, 94, is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Central Lutheran Church. Private inurnment will follow.

Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Morton, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Friday. She graduated from North Central High School and worked as an office manager for Western Drug Supply for 16 years. She retired in 1972.

Her husband of 38 years, Ralph Morton, died in 1966. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Morton of Spokane. Memorial contributions may be made to the Spokane Humane Society. James Snider Spokane Funeral Mass for James Joseph Snider, 65, was Monday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church.

Burial followed at Fairmount Memorial Park. Mr. Snider, a 45-year Spokane resident, died Friday. He was born in Hot Springs, S.D., and graduated I in 1950 from Grandview (Wash.) High School. Mr.

Snider served in the Marine Corps from 1952 to 1960 as a Staff Sergeant. In 1954 he married Clarice Blair in Spokane and in 1964 graduated from Eastern Washington University with a dual degree in humanity and social work. Mr. Snider was employed with Spokane County Health and Social Services as a planner until his retirement in 1996. He was a 20-year member of The Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Susan Stewart of Spokane, Jeannine Cannon-Mason of Greenacres and Sharlene Bressler of Anchorage, Alaska; a sister, Marge McGhan of Grandview, and 10 grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Poor Clare Nuns. Lois Ira Spokane Private incryptment for Lois A. Ira, 87, was held at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. At her request, no service will be held.

Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Ira, who died Friday, was a 28-year resident of Spokane. She was born in Ellensburg, and worked as a clerk and typist for many years. Mrs.

Ira worked several years at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. She volunteered with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program for many years. Survivors include a daughter, Jacqueline Ferrell- -Fleury of Sea Tac, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Patient Care of Spokane County. Joyce Johnson Spokane No service will be held for Joyce M.

Johnson, 66, at her request. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Johnson, who was born in Fort Benton, died Saturday. She moved to Spangle, as a child and graduated from Spangle High School.

Mrs. Johnson moved to Spokane after graduation and was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Russell; a brother, Gaylord Mitzner of Chewelah, and a stepbrother, James Betteridge of Colville, Wash. "When my time comes, 9 want things simple." James Hill Spokane Memorial service for James H. 'Jim' Hill, 68, will be at 3 p.m.

today at Heritage Funeral Home. Mr. Hill, who was born in Coeur d'Alene, died Saturday. He graduated from Coeur d'Alene High School and in 1951 received his degree in hotel administration from Washington State University. In 1951 he married Betty Cauvel in Spokane, and he served in the Navy during the Korean War.

Mr. Hill returned to Spokane and worked for the Desert Caravan Inn in its accounting department. Then, in 1955, he left the hotel to become the first manager of the Davenport Hotel's Matador Restaurant when it first opened. The next year he returned to Coeur d'Alene to manage the Desert Hotel, once run by his father. He returned to Spokane in 1958 to manage the Manito Golf and Country Club and in 1959 went back to the Desert chain as manager of the Spokane Desert Hotel.

He became manager of the Caravan Inn in 1960. In 1961 Mr. Hill resigned and became the general manager of the Catamaran Motor Hotel in Mission Beach, San Diego. An association with Hyatt Hotels in California began in 1964, and he was named general manager of the City of Commerce Hyatt House Hotel in Los Angeles in 1966 before joining Hyatt International in 1970. He then was posted in Hong Kong, Singapore, London and Tehran, Iran where he later started his own management company and lived in Spain, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong.

In 1989 a visit to Spokane led to the discovery that the Davenport Hotel was for sale, and his interest and efforts led to the acquisition of the Hotel by its present owners. He and his wife moved back to Spokane in 1991 and have owned and operated Hill's Someplace Else restaurant for the past four years. Survivors include his wife and two sons, Steven and David Hill, both of Spokane. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane. Larry Pyeatt Deer Park Visitation for Larry A.

Pyeatt, 52, will be from 9 a.m. to 1p.m. today at Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park. Service will follow at 2 p.m. at the Open Door Congregational Church in Deer Park.

Mr. Pyeatt, who was born in Spokane, died Friday. He graduated in 1964 from Riverside (Wash.) High School and worked as a journeyman meat cutter for 25 years with Hygrade and I Bonanza Meats in Spokane. For the past six years he worked for Owl Fencing in Clayton, Wash. Survivors include his companion, Betty Franz of Deer Park; seven children, Osa, Layna, Kylene, Cordon, Kayla, Dana and Jason; his father and stepmother, Avery and Ellen Pyeatt of Gifford, a brother, Jerry Pyeatt of Deer Park; and nine grandchildren.

Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. McCallister, who died Friday, was born in Salt Lake City. She graduated from high school in Salt Lake City and in 1941 married Gola McCallister there. They moved to Spokane in 1958 from Coeur d'Alene.

Mrs. McCallister was a homemaker and was a member of the Homemakers Club. Her husband died in 1976. He grew in Coeur d'Alene, and joined the Army National Guard. Mr. Sherman went to work for Robideaux Motors in 1958 and then worked for the family vending machine business. He opened Jim's Grill on Government Way in 1974 and operated it until 1979. Mr.

Sherman worked various jobs until starting his own lawn-care business in 1994. He retired in 1997. Survivors include his companion, Marian; three daughters, Candice, Mary Beth and Petty Sherman, and a son, James Sherman, all of Spokane; a brother, Don Sherman of Coeur d'Alene; a sister, Diane Rininger of Coeur d'Alene; and three grandchildren. Memorial contribution may be made to Hospice of North Idaho. Margaret Martin Latah Graveside burial for Margaret A.

Martin, 83, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Latah City Cemetery. Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa, is in charge of arrangements. Miss Martin, who was born in Everett, died Saturday. She moved to the Wilbur, area as a child.

During the 1940s, she worked as a crane operator for Kaiser Aluminum. Miss Martin later worked in an Italian restaurant in Spokane and packaged butter at a Spokane creamery. In the late 1950s, she worked as a clerk in the grocery store in Latah. In 1957 she started to work at plant nurseries in Spokane. She worked at Krause's Nursery and at Ritter's Nursery for nearly 25 years until her retirement in 1984.

After her retirement, she moved to Latah. Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews including, Colleen Groeneveld of Brewster, and Michael Farrelly of Latah. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Vern Oleson Rathdrum, Idaho At his request, no service will be held for Vern K. Oleson, 75.

Private family service will be held later. English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Oleson, who was born in South Dakota, died Thursday. He moved to North Idaho in 1936 and then was stationed in the Philippines and served as a tail gunner in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

Mr. Oleson returned to North Idaho in 1947 and worked as a railroad lineman and a rancher and then for Spokane Steel Foundry, retiring in 1980. Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Marilyn; a son, John Oleson of Hayden, Idaho; two daughters, Sharon Borders of Silverton, Idaho, and Rae Malagiero of Georgia; two stepdaughters, Shirley Gossett of Spokane and Brenda Gilcrist of Rathdrum; a stepson, Gary Ormiston of Arizona; a brother, Wilbur Oleson of Coeur d'Alene; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mary Bergmark Spokane Sat No service will be held for Mary C. Bergmark, 85, at her request.

Private inurnment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Bergmark, a Spokane resident since 1942, died Friday. She was born in Anaconda, and was a teacher in Spokane School District 81 for 31 years.

Mrs. Bergmark was a member of the National and Spokane Education associations and the Spokane Retired Teachers Association. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Vernon; two daughters, Barbara Sunderland of Spokane and Verna Love of Beaverton, a brother, Jack McCarvel of Great Falls, a sister, Margaret Taylor of Renton, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
